Tips on recording a self-introduction video:

Prepare well & Practise

Write down what you are going to say in bullet points and practise a couple of time in front of a mirror or camera. 

The purpose of the self-introduction video is to let employer understands more about you. So make sure you include the followings in your script:

  • Your personal information e.g. your Name, age, family background & education background
  • Your job experience as a domestic helper e.g. experience in taking care baby, kids, elderly etc
  • Your strengths, skills & personality that can bring to the role e.g. patient, hardworking, self-motivated, good at cooking, loves kids, etc

Body language

  • your voice must be loud and clear enough, speak slowly 
  • carry a smile always
  • look straight into the camera
  • Stand up/sit up straight and still 

Surroundings

  • find a clean and plain background e.g. in front of a wall
  • record the video in a quiet place,  
  • enough lighting on your face, better take the video during day time or in a well-lit room with plenty of light in front of you. Make sure you don’t have strong light behind you. 

Appearance

  • Tidy up your hair
  • Light or no make up 
  • Wear property 
  • Keep smiling
  • Be confident because employer is expecting someone who they can rely on taking care their kids or elderly, tell them how you can help

Review your video

Sometimes getting the perfect introduction video takes a few tries until you’re completely comfortable in front of the camera. Before your video is ready to share, double-check for the following:

  • Did you speak clearly and not too quickly?
  • Is the video free of awkward pauses?
  • Can you hear your voice in the video?
  • Can you see your face clearly?
  • Is the background clear (i.e., no one else in the shot, no personal belongings, etc.)?
  • If someone is recording for you, is the shot steady and not shaky?
  • Did you smile in the video?
